During the recent years, the turban has been questioned, roundly criticized and has
come under attack from various quarters. This has happened from within the Sikh
community and also from other communities, governments, religious groups and other
organizations.

The French ban on turbans in public schools.
Attacks on Sikhs following the 9/11 attacks. We are mistaken for Muslims!
General low esteem among turban users due to vanity, ridicule and taunting from others.
General perception is that the majority of our girls prefer clean-shaven Sikhs.
Job opportunities affected by turban users.
Sikhs with turbans are termed medieval and archaic.
Sikhs arriving in foreign lands removing their turbans at the 1st opportunity
International Sikh Turban day was first started by Sikh Children Forum in 2003 and first
“Sikh Turban Day” was celebrated on 13 April 2004 in California and Amritsar. Then Next year onward other organizations and Sikh centers around the globe joined and started
celebrating this event.

It’s an Ultimate Joy; Share it, Spread it: Create a dialogue with other community members and make them aware of importance and significance of the Sikh Turban Day.

Your Participation is Paramount to Projects Success

Adoption:  Wear a Turban (all adults and children), plan ahead.   Turban Wearing Sikhs can celebrate the Sikh Turban Day by promoting the Turban adoption amongst your friends, family and peers and offering advise and assistance to Non-Wearing Turban day as required.
Event Relaying Spread the word of this celebration among your family, friends and other community members by personal meetings, phone, email, web-banner etc.
Event Organization : Conduct Turban-Clinics at your home, local Gurdwara or Community Center teach your child and other needy people about turban. You can download Turban
Advertising Promotion : Print out the flyer (Or, request printed copies by mail) and post it at your local Gurdwaras, Community Centers, Grocery shops, and Restaurants.
Advertising Paid: Post an independent advertisement in your local news paper covering the importance and planned activities.
Alternatively contact a SCF sevadar to help sponsor a paid-event (under the banner of your name or business entity) promotion, SCF offers various print online media advertising plans, covering local and international communities for increased awareness.
Objectives of Sikh Turban Day

Identity

To promote adoption of Turban as a symbol of Sikh Identity and pride amongst Sikh
Youth and Non-Turban Sikh adults.

Values

“No Sikh Left Behind”, provide easy enough ways to Sikh Youth and Non-Turban Sikh
adults to stay  connected with Sikh religion and cultural  roots.

Worldwide Awareness

To support Turban-Dhari Sikh brothers and sisters, and educate other communities
about Turban and its relation to our religion.

International Sikh Turban Day event is promoted by “Sikh Children Forum” to
promotion of Sikh Turban amongst non-turban wearing Sikhs worldwide and educate
fellow citizons. Project primarily goal is to popularize adoption of Turban as a
personal, religious and social symbol of identity amongst Sikh children and our
no-turban wearing Sikhs.
